This paper presents a focused study within the broader scope of "Research and Development for the Automation of Snow Removal Machines and Delivery Vehicles in Snowy Environments," particularly addressing the semi-automation and labor reduction of sidewalk snow removal operations. To mitigate the growing shortage of personnel, we developed a real-time pedestrian detection alert system that can substitute for human guides. By employing sensor fusion of thermal cameras and 3D LiDAR, the system achieves highly accurate pedestrian detection even in low-light and snowy conditions. The proposed system is designed to operate in real-time on compact onboard computers, demonstrating practical applicability in snowy environments. This research serves as a foundational technology for the future unmanned operation of snow removal machinery. |
