Design and Analysis of Frequency-Tunable Circularly Polarized Microstrip Patch Antenna Using Varactor-Loaded Ring-Slot Structure

(in English) This paper investigates a circularly polarized (CP) microstrip antenna with a frequency-tuning capability. The proposed antenna consists of a patch with an embedded ring slot, together with a varactor diode and a chip capacitor. The introduction of a chip capacitor forms a split-ring slot, and frequency tuning as well as CP excitation is achieved by electrically varying the effective length of the split-ring slot using the varactor diode. In addition, a simple biasing structure employing a via is adopted to apply the control voltage to the diode, which helps miniaturize the antenna. The operating mechanism and performance of the proposed antenna are verified through simulations, and a frequency tuning range of approximately 1 GHz (15%) in the 5.8-GHz band is achieved while maintaining CP characteristics over the entire tuning range.
