A Note on an Object-Centric Metric for 3D Scenes Based on Open-Vocabulary Object Detection Models

3D reconstruction models synthesize photorealistic 3D scenes from multi-view images and generate novel view images. Conventional evaluation metrics measure image-level quality and struggle to assess the quality of individual objects within a scene. Moreover, existing object-level metric depends on object detectors with a limited set of detectable classes, which restricts the evaluation scope and suffers from reduced accuracy due to background regions included in detected bounding boxes. To address this, we propose an object-centric evaluation metric for 3D scenes that incorporates an open-vocabulary object detection model. Our proposed metric flexibly evaluates complex scenes containing diverse objects and achieves higher generality than prior approaches. Furthermore, by using features extracted from segmentation masks rather than bounding boxes, our method suppresses background interference and more accurately captures object-level quality. User study results demonstrate that our proposed metric exhibits a stronger correlation with human perception compared to existing metrics. |
