Application of linear-logarithmic response to a 4-tap iToF imager with storage diode structure for high light intensity tolerance

Output saturation caused by the measurement of high-reflective objects is a major challenge for short-range distance imaging sensors. We solve this problem by applying, for the first time, a linear-logarithmic response to a 4-tap Short-Pulse modulation indirect Time-of-Flight (SP iToF) sensor with charge storage (SD) structures. The proposed method prevents output saturation under high illuminance conditions, simultaneously extending the dynamic range and maintaining distance accuracy. Consequently, this enables highly accurate distance measurement regardless of the lighting environment, the object's reflectance, or its reflection mechanism. |
