Image sensors used in environments with large illuminance variations require high dynamic range (HDR). We are investigating a dual conversion gain (DCG) HDR CMOS image sensor employing a 4T pixel structure with two readouts. This paper proposes applying Multiple-PD technology, based on Macro Pixel architectures such as Quad Pixel, to extend the dynamic range. Device simulations show that an HDR of up to 102.8 dB can be achieved using photodiodes of different sizes with full well capacities of 18 ke- and 46 ke-. |
