A Method for Automatic Classification of Photography Composition to Select Scenery Photos worth Storing

(in English) People take a bunch of photographs everyday with the widespread of digital cameras and smartphones, but they have difficulties in choosing photos worth storing and uploading to social networking services. To overcome this problem, methods to automatically evaluate the attractiveness of a photograph by using features such as color and composition have been investigated. Whereas methods for portraits have been studied and developed well, there are problems that the accuracy of automatic estimation of composition is not enough for landscape photographs. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to classify the composition of scenery photographs among six particular compositions based on AKAZE-based feature points and Hough transformation-based detected lines. Performance evaluation with actual scenery photographs shows that the proposed method improves the accuracy of composition estimation than the conventional method using saliency and other features.
