Simple equations for evaluating chromatic dispersion of afour-mode fiber

(in English) Mode division multiplexing (MDM) systems using few-mode fibers (FMFs) have been researched and developed for overcoming the transmission capacity limitation of the conventional single mode fibers. The dispersion characteristics of each mode in FMF become very important for designing the MDM systems. We have proposed a general formula expressed by the electric field distribution of the linear polarized LP mode for evaluating waveguide dispersion characteristics of higher-order modes in FMFs. In this study, we derive simple evaluation formulas for the dispersion characteristics of the LP01, LP11, LP21, and LP02 modes by applying the general formula to a 4-mode fiber, and also clarify the measurement accuracy of our simple formulas by numerical simulations.
