A Study on Character Input Interface Using Eye Blink Based on Face Landmark Detection for Severely Physically Disabled Persons

(in English) Patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) have limited mobility in the terminal stages of the disease. Therefore, eye movements are used as an input for communication tools for people with severely physically disabled persons, such as ALS, because there is a relatively small functional decline in eye movements even in the terminal stage of the disease. In this study, we aim to develop an interface to input characters using blinking eyes. The system detects landmarks on the left and right sides of the eyes from the camera movie and detects the blinking of the right eye, left eye, and both eyes based on the detected landmarks. In addition, we studied a method for inputting characters using blinking of the right eye, left eye, and both eyes.
